Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 11, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Fridge("the App", "we", "us"), operated by Louis-Nicolas Longheval in Belgium, collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the Fridge iOS app and the website at https://fridge.longheval.com. We process personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Data We Collect

Account information

  • Email address — required to create an account and sign in.
  • Name (optional) — provided by you or by Sign in with Apple.
  • Profile picture (optional) — if you choose to add one.
  • Authentication data — passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see or store your plain-text password. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple controls what information is shared with us.

Content you create

  • Food inventory data — item names, categories, quantities, purchase and expiry dates, notes, and scanned barcodes.
  • Photos — pictures you choose to attach to food items.
  • Household data — household and fridge names, invite codes, household membership, and which member added which item.

Preferences and device data

  • App preferences — notification settings, appearance settings, and similar choices, stored primarily on your device.
  • Subscription status— whether you have an active premium subscription (see "Payments" below). We never receive your payment card details.

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and we do not sell your personal data.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the App: storing your food inventory and syncing it across your devices.
  • To enable household sharing: members of a household you join can see the shared fridges, items, and the names of other members.
  • To send you expiry reminders — these notifications are scheduled locally on your device based on your preferences.
  • To provide premium features, including AI-generated recipe suggestions.
  • To respond to support requests and account deletion requests.

3. AI Recipe Suggestions

The recipe suggestions feature generates recipe ideas based on the contents of your fridge. Depending on your device:

  • On-device processing — on devices that support Apple Intelligence, suggestions are generated entirely on your device and no data leaves it.
  • Cloud processing— otherwise, a request is sent through our server to OpenAI containing only the names, quantities, and expiry hints of your fridge items and the preferences you select (such as meal type, dietary restrictions, and servings). No account information, photos, household data, or personal notes are included. According to OpenAI's API policies, this data is not used to train their models.

4. Barcode Scanning and Camera

The App uses your camera solely to scan product barcodes for faster item entry. The camera feed is processed on your device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. If you use the optional store price lookup, the scanned barcode is matched against a public product dataset; no personal data is sent with these lookups.

5. Service Providers

We share data only with the service providers needed to run the App:

  • Supabase — hosts our database, file storage, and authentication. Your account data, food inventory, household data, and photos are stored there.
  • RevenueCat — manages subscription entitlements. Receives a pseudonymous user identifier and purchase information from Apple.
  • Apple — processes payments through the App Store and provides Sign in with Apple and push notification infrastructure.
  • OpenAI — receives fridge item data for recipe generation as described in section 3, only when on-device processing is not available.

These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes, except as described in their own policies for the services above.

6. Legal Bases (GDPR)

  • Performance of a contract — most processing is necessary to provide the App you signed up for (account, inventory, sharing, subscriptions).
  • Consent — notifications, camera access, and photos are only used after you grant the relevant permission, which you can revoke at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Legitimate interests — securing the service and preventing abuse.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the App under Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data — households you own, fridges, items, and photos — and cannot be undone. You can also email us at support@longheval.com to request deletion.

8. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate data;
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten");
  • Receive your data in a portable format;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@longheval.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority — in Belgium, the Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be).

9. Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with industry-standard safeguards. Access to your household data is restricted to you and the members of households you have joined.

10. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above. Significant changes will be communicated in the App.
